Overview

SailWise ("the app") is a sailing conditions app developed by an independent developer. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is handled.

Data Collection

SailWise does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.

The app operates 100% on your device. There is no server, no user account, no analytics tracking, and no advertising.

Data Accessed Locally

The app accesses the following data, which stays entirely on your device:

• Location: Used to fetch weather forecasts and tide predictions for your sailing spot. Your coordinates are sent directly to Open-Meteo (weather API) to retrieve forecasts. They are not stored on any server we operate.
• Sailing profile: Your boat type, experience level, crew type, and custom thresholds are stored locally on your device.
• Spot data: The names and coordinates of your sailing spots are stored locally on your device.
• Notification preferences: Your notification settings are stored locally.

Third-Party Services

The app communicates directly with the following third-party APIs to provide weather data:

• Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — Weather and marine forecasts. Privacy policy
• MeteoAlarm (meteoalarm.org) — European maritime weather alerts
• NOAA NWS (weather.gov) — US maritime weather alerts
• Google Play Billing — For in-app purchases. Managed by Google.

These services receive your approximate location (latitude/longitude) to return relevant weather data. We do not control how these third parties handle this data.

In-App Purchases

SailWise offers an optional one-time premium purchase through Google Play Billing. The purchase is managed entirely by Google. We do not have access to your payment information.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transmit any of your data to third parties. The app has no backend server.

Children's Privacy

SailWise is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Data Retention

All data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all data. There is no cloud backup or sync.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
